AFR heads and cast gm valve covers.... Need VC stud kit

So I bought some ARP valve cover studs to mount a pair of cast aluminum Chevrolet valve covers to my new AFR heads and the head side of the stud is to short and only threads into the head a little bit before it bottoms out of the stud. Anyone know what valve cover studs will work with my parts? There is a grove cut through the threaded holes on the heads about 1/4" and thats as far as these ARP studs will make it....sucks they are nice studs!

I purchased a set from Summit for my Dart aluminum heads, I purchased the tall ones so I could use thick gaskets and hardware mounts for routing SP wires. All good no issues and thread into heads nicely. You may call Summit and ask for their recommendation.
Good Luck

Yeah, those threads should go quite a bit deeper than that. Something's not right. Sounds like you're only getting maybe 3-4 threads in there.

That's not the problem....the problem is the studs are only about 1/4" long and they don't make it past the grove in the aluminum head. I just order some other kind so I hope they work.

Oh, oh, I understand now. Just get the kind that are all threads from top to bottom. Moroso makes several sets in different lengths like that. I'm sure other companies do as well. I have a set holding down the valve covers on my AFR heads right now.

a stick of 1/4" allthread is cheap and works great for making whatever studs you need. get some of the nuts with the serrations on the bottom of the flange and you will have valve covers that never come loose for only a few bucks.

did this on my daily driven 74 Monte Carlo with the cast Chevy valve covers on it and everything still looked new 3 years after i put them on..
