electric fan Q
Right now i have a good 'ol 6 blade flex fan on my 355 and it seems to put some drag on the engine. I can get an electric fan setup out of a 90 firebird for really cheep. do you guys think that i would actually notice a difference, or would the extra drag on my alternator offset the whole idea?

It's a toss up. Electric fans will move more air when needed as opposed to a belt driven unit. Belt driven fans seem to keep the engine temp more stable. You can control fan turn on by using aftermarket fan control switches. As far as HP, 1 horsepower is equal to 746 watts. Dual fans when turned on will draw a peak current of about 20 amps or so then settle down to about 6-8 amps each. At 12 volts you would be looking at around 96 watts for each fan(P= ExI) where power is in watts I=current in amps and E is equal to voltage. Not really significant in the scheme of things. If you run them continuosly they will shorten the generators life somewhat. Hope this helps.
