Neither fan comes on at any temp
1992 Z28 305 with dual fan setup
Neither one of my fans come on at any temperature. I tried replacing the fan relay, but neither one is coming on. When I ground the fans, they works fine, but I can't get them to work otherwise. Any help is greatly appreciated.

fan issue...
This may help...
My '89 IROC fan never came on since I got the car 3 years ago - I had to wire it straight to the battery. Finally, I begged/borrowed/stole enough money to let GM have a look, and they found that I had a fried fusible link as well as some mangled wiring. I don't know where this link is, but it was part of my problem - you might check into that. Hope I've pointed you in the right direction.

Bothe fans run off the same wire I think its like an orange or redish color 12 gauge wire and it runs all the way from the battery around the fire wall to the fan relays on the passenger side fron fender. I cut mine and inserted two inline fusable links and added another wire to the other fan so they would be power sourced independent from each other and not get so hot.
Follow your wiring from the fans back wards and chase them down.

My only problem is that if a link was burned out, I wouldn't be able to turn the fans on at all. I did a little experiment, letting the car get up over 236 or whatever the suppsoed secondary fan switch is supposed to kick in. When the relay wasn't bypassed, neither fan came on, but when I bypassed the relay, both fans came on, until the temp got down, the the second switched off liek it was supposed to. I studied the diagrams in the threat at the top of this fourm and it follows pretty close. I think I narrowed it down to the green and ****e wire that runs into the ecm. I canm't trace it al the way, but I think it (or maybe even the ecm, *** I hope not) may be the source here. Of course it's never the easy fix with my car...
