new radiator install question
my old radiator cracked on the side, so I had to run out and get a new one. my question is if I could run the engine with out hooking up the radiator to get all the old coolant out of the engine. would this work?
also, my air conditioning hasn't worked for a couple of years, so I just want to remove all the componets, does anybody have any pointers on doing this??
thanks

anybody?
the reason i want to get the old coolant out of the engine is that what came out of the old radiator wasn't exactly green. it was more brownish green. I tried the drain plugs on the engine block, but they are pretty solid and i would rather not break one of those off and have to pull the engine to fix that. so i figured, run the engine till no more coolant comes out and that should be good.
feel free to tell me otherwise or suggest a better alternative.

if you are super worried about that collant , hook up the radiator and run the engine with the radiator full of water. then after a few minutes drain and then refill with water or antifreeze. DO NOT run the engine without the radiator. why run the risk of wrecking something?

yeah, i wasn't that worried, after three hours of driving around to get the right radiator, i decided to just hook it back up and add new coolant. when i get a chance, i'm gonna flush the whole system out.

i agree
I would definately agree, do not run w/o a radiator. as far as the AC system goes make sure all the refregerant is out (or reasonably close to) I haven't done this (I like my a/c) but if I was going to I wouldn't be going at it with a crow bar or somthng, just take your time on it. (I learned this stuff in the tech school I'm going to, which is for diesel btw) just my opinion
