question about water pump

It's for older heater core setups; it's a pressure line out I think but am not so sure now. I've had to route a temperature gauge there before; gives a cooler reading though.

line out is the intake, before T-stat

I've often wondered about this (the direction of flow).
When you say "line out is the intake, before T-stat", do you mean the line out of the motor, or the line out of the radiator? In other words, please bear with this dumb old phart, does the water flow from the radiator through the top hose to the thermostat and then on into the engine, or the other way around?

The water pump is pulling coolant from the lower radiator hose then circulates through the block, and up to the coolant passage on the manifold to return coolant to the radiatior via top hose when then thermostat is open. Therefore the outlets/fittings on the manifold always releases coolant to the heater core. Is that right Dave?

yes
think of this, the t-stat is the only real restriction in the system, so the coolant is at the highest pressure before it, and lowest right before the w/p(tecnically right after the t-stat, but that is not doable on the gen 1 sbc...LT1's have it done that way)
