heater control valve (91 Firebird)
heater control valve (91 Firebird)
Does anyone have a pic or illustration of how the water control valve is connected up with the heater hoses?
My son's car had it removed by a previous owner and he'd like to put one back since he's roasting in there.
Thanks

So your son's car doesn't have A/C? Seriously though, how are the hoses running now? Is the metal line still in place by the frame rail? I just recently removed mine, so the routing is still fresh in my head. But my car doesn't seem to roast me out, even in these high temps.
Maybe the blend door is not adjusted correctly, leaving heat enter through the lower vents (either side of the radio housing). Do you feel heat on your legs when you are driving? You would have to remove the passenger under dash panel to check the cable at the blend door.

Under the hood is a poor patch job.
A/C is disconnected.
Previous owner said it needed a recharge. Sure, if it had a condenser!
Pipes for the heater hoses are there, but not used. Currently, there's only hoses directly to the core. He's trying to slowly get it back to normal.
He's got a new valve and trying to get the connections right.

Okay, I'm not sure if this is going to help all that much, but the yellow circled one goes to the nipple on the intake.
The red circled one goes to the upper heater core line. The green circled one goes to the metal line that is running along the frame rail. That line runs from the lower heater core line to the radiator. There is a tee fitting in it for the green circled line.
Hopefully the vacuum line is still on the car somewhere. It is one of those plastic lines with a rubber fitting, like an EGR line.
As far as the condensor goes, you can pick them up for next to nothing at the bone yards.
Let me know if this helps at all.

That should help a bunch.
Right npw, there's one from the core to the radiator and the other from the water pump to the core.
I ID'd the vacuum line right away. That's how I told him that the valve was missing when he brought the car home.
As far as junk yard condensers, all the one's here are salt eaten or crushed from front end hits.
Thanks loads!

Good Luck, and let me know how it works out.
BTW, how much are you willing to go for the condensor? I was at one of those pick & pull places a few days ago, and saw a couple of 3rd gens laying around, so you might get lucky.
I'm going to try and get out to another one this weekend and look around some more. (Looking for some L98 heads, and fog light switch) I'll let you know if I see any good ones.
