Fan question

i have a 91 TBI RS, and the fan will go on some times on others it will not. i have looked at the wireing diagram and i think the fan control relay is the prob. where the hell is it in the car? i heard that cleaning it off may slove my problems.

a quick pic. would be awsome if some one wanted to help.

Hard to get a camera in the engine compartment in such a way to show the fan adequately. I have no idea where the fan control relay is. Here's the best I could do:

fan relays should be on the firewall by the brake booster...

The fan relay is up by the battery in the engine bay behind the passenger headlight. Pop it off and look at the pin connectors, clean them, also look at the plug side connections, same thing. If after you clean it the fan still doesn't work, disconnect the plug from fan, ground one side, jumper 12vdc to the other. The fan should operate, if not, fans is bad. Might want to check the fan switch on the passenger side of the motor under exhaust around the sixth cylinder, make sure the wire is on and making good connection.

For a 91 RS, the fan relay is located in between the brake booster and the driver's side fender incased in a small black bracket. There will be 2 relays in there. The fan relay is the one closest to the fender (the other relay is the fuel pump relay). Also, the fan relay has 4 wires to it (while the FP relay has 5).
