Constantly running fan condition

My project 87 Camaro .... has two radiator fans. The passenger side fan starts to run the moment the ignition key is turned. It stays running all the time. The drivers side kicks on when it's supposed to. Doesnt seem right. Could the non-charged a/c system have anything to do with this? I've swapped relays and the a/c heater control panel. Same condition, fan runs on. Ideas, suggestions? Thanks.

sounds like a wiring problem to me, seems like the pass. side fan has been wired to run when the key is on the 'on' position. so my best bet would be to check your wiring, did you put the fan in or was it on the car when you got it?

Yes, it looks like that, somebody hooked that wire to another one which sends electricity when the ignition is on. Check the wire that goes to the heater fan and follow it wherever it goes. You will see that it is connected to another wire that probably supplies electricity to different engine components too.

Thanks for the feedback.

You guys are probably right. Makes sense if the passenger side fan comes on when the key is turned to run. Also, I replaced the OE chip with a performance chip that also reset the fans to activate at 185. The drivers side secondary fan comes on as it should when the temp reaches the 185+ mark. Theyre both running then!

Since the harness was a transplant along with the motor from a later model car, I've found a few other odd misfit wiring issues to keep me busy... funny thing is that it all looked like it hadnt been tampered with. Hey, this is a project car!

It could be programed into your chip for it to come on when the key is on.I put a 350 chip in and the pass. side fan is on all the time. When I switch back it comes on at normal temp.

I was wonder about the new chip also!...

I put the OEM 350 chip back into the computer when I was trying to get my mechanical to electronic speedo conversion / swap working. The passenger side fan came on as soon as the key was turned to run. I was hoping that the (constantly running) fan wouldnt run and comfirm that the chip was causing this condition but, that didnt happen.

Trickster also suggested that it may be related to my uncharged A/C system.

Great feeback!

Thanks!
