Dual fan confusion. Help!!
OK.....sorting out cooling issues.
Trying to wire in a manual fan switch but have gotten confused.
On the dual fan setup, one fan is controlled by the temp switch in the block and comes on stock at 220* right?
The other is controlled by either a)., a/c pressure or b)., engine temp reaches 230*.
As far as I know, the "primary" fan is the one controlled by temp sensor in the block. And, the "secondary" or "auxillary" fan is the other.
Now......which one is driver side and which is passenger?

The primary fan will have a black/red positive wire. The secondary/aux fan has a black/purple positive wire.
Hope this helps.

P.S.: The Austin F-Body club (AFBforums.com) is organizing a cruise to Lake Belton (by Killeen) for Oct 30th. Will you be joining us?

hey guy...whats happening?? Hmmm....a cruise to lake belton sounds fun. Have to see whats going on that weekend. How long of a drive is it from austin to killeen?
Ok....the driver side fan has the black/red wire. I'm trying to rig up a manual switch. I fumbled around with an adjustable fan switch but haven't been able to get it to work. When I grounded the ground wire from the fan, nothing happens.
Is this siomething I need to do at the relay and not at the fan? I located the relay and from what I've read here, I'm supposed to ground the green/whtie wire from the relay (via a manual switch).
I think I'm going to junk the adjustable temp fan switch in favot of the manual switch.

Yes, you are correct, you need to tap into the relay wires, not the actual fan wires. The fans are hardwired to ground, the hot wire is controlled by the relays.
Then the relays are wired to ignition power and the ground controls their state.
So if you want to rig up a switch, you need to ground the relay(s) with the switch. Don't ground the wrong wire, though!
If you need detailed help, feel free to give me a call. PM me for my #.
Belton is about 50 miles (half an hour
) from North Austin (where we are meeting) and the lake is about another few miles from the town. It's a straight shot up I-35 from Austin. Depending on where you are, you might want to either join us in Austin, along the way or maybe directly there. We'll have a lot of cars and will form a convoy (radio navigated) so you can't miss us.

yeah, I think I'm going to splice into the grn/wht wire and run a manual switch and forget about the adjustable unit.
Yeah...i had no clue that Austin had an f-bod club. That rules. I'll PM you in a bit. Weather should be perfect.
