heater core Blues...

Well thanks to guys and gals on this site I got my TPI converted to a carb. Well Now AI have discovered another challenge, the heater core cracked on one of the nipple welds. The antiefrees and carpet dose not go well with the car. now for the question

What is the best way to remove the heater core in a 87 trans am?

the TPI is out and it is now a 330 hp 350 just for fun

Are you sure there is a crack? If it didnt leak before you might have a loose hose and need to retighten your heater core hoses first. If the heater core hose is old you may have to cut off the worn part were the clamp was and tighten it on a fresh part of hose. This can cause leaks inside the car while your firewall stays dry.
If you need a new heater core you can pull the passengers side kick pannel floor cover off and remove the rectangular air duct pannel that is below the heater core. You can remove the core bolts (4 I think) and pull the heater core out if you hold the flap in front of the heater core open and be very carefull not to break anything, its all plastic, dont force it. This is a shortcut, I have done 4 ok like this and broke 1. Otherwise you get to take all the stuff in the way apart.

Dude, I just replaced my heater core and all I gotta say is take your time. my buddy and I used the shortcut on his 88T/a and it did not pay off, although we got everything in half of it was broken. I would not recommend using a short cut if you are doing it the first time. Go get a chiltons or whatever else makes manuals, and take the front dash out. It helps quite a bit. It will take you about 1hr-2hrs to do it.
Good luck bro!
