Secondary Fan not turning on

After realizing my fans weren't working, I replaced both motors. I tested both before installing, and they work fine.

Now if I jump the AB of the ALDL only the primary turns on. Same thing if I put on the AC. Are both supposed to come on when jumpering?

Does this sound like a wire (or ground) issue? What is in line when jumpering the fans (the relay is bypassed, correct)? Any help is greatly appreciated. Troubleshooting steps would be great. The car is a stock 88 GTA, 305, 5-speed

As far as i know, the only time the secondary fan turns on is at a predetermined temp that a sensor on the passenger side head is made for. I dont think the secondary even is connected with the ECM. if you want it to turn on sooner you need a different temp sensor for that.

i only have a single fan, but from what iv read im pretty sure.

You could test your cooling fan switch, that's on the passenger side head. Disconnect the switch, turn the ignition to the ON position, the fan should turn. If the fan comes on and the engine operates at higher than normal temperatures (hot summer day) then your switch is faulty. If it doesn't come on, I would check the relay.
