Is This Normal?

I was wondering if its normal for the fan to come on when I turn the key to the on position (1 click clockwise) because when I do this it sounds like the fan comes on and then it makes this horrible whining noise most of the time usually when its cold though.I dont understand why it would be normal but some input would be appreciated. Thanks,Jason

I think the first thing you should do is verify that the fan really is turning on and is making the noise you're hearing. Just get someone else to turn the key while you look under the hood and watch the fans and listen for the noise, just to make sure that's your problem.

It's not normal, though. If your fans are on all the time than I would suspect that a previous owner wired the fan to run constantly. A lot of people used to do this for fear of overheating. I'd try and get ahold of a wiring diagram for your car, and trace the fan wiring and make sure there isn't any apparent damage or hack job done to the wiring.

My fan does the same thing. Does it do this EVERY time you turn the key or just sometimes.
If it is just sometimes try to notice the temp next time. Mine cuts on when the temp reaches 220 degrees. if I turn the key when the temp is at 220 it comes on. but only if it is at 220 or greater.

Yeah it is the fan that makes the noise but it goes away after a couple seconds & it does turn on everytime I put it in the on position or start the car the wiring doesnt look bad maybe I should run it to a switch tho instead. my temp gauge is messed up but Ill replace it shortly in the future.I think the noise is just from the cold. Thanks guys
