Gasket and Sealant

Hey all quick question when I apply the sealant on the thermostat housing do I apply it under the gasket as well ?

Personally I don’t know a heck about cars yet but I’m learning. I use to use a gasket on my thermostat housing and it always leaked a little... tried sealant and one side as well as both side and still leaked. I then switched to an o-ring and haven’t had a leak since. That’s my personal experience. Hope this helps.
