Cooling Discuss all of the aspects of cooling that you can think of! Radiators, transmissions, electric fans, etc.

Tried everything I could think of, but still overheats.

Tried everything I could think of, but still overheats.

My 88 Camaro 305 overheats while stopped or in heavy traffic, and while on the highway if you turn on the A/C. I have replaced sensors, water pump, 170 t-stat, radiator, r-cap, hoses, and the belt. The cooling system is basically brand new. It has been flushed 3 times over the past year. The fan is new and hard wired to the ignition. I've tried 50/ 50 mix, and staight water. The air dam and fan shroud are in tact. I thought it might be the gauge but you can here it boil over in to the resv. cotainer. What else could there be?

What kind of water pump did you buy. What is a reman? Just because a part is new doesnt mean it will work properly. Stats can be bad right out of the box. Check to see if the coolant is flowing. You could have air pockets in the system. The hoses should be somewhat hard when they are pressurized. Squeeze them to see. That will also burp out any air. If the comp is set for a stock 195* stat then I think 170* is too low. Try at least a 180*. Make sure the fan is spinning in the right direction as well. It should be pulling air in thru the rad towards the engine.

It gets to the red and I cut the engine. As for the parts, the stat has been replaced 3 times. The fan air is pulling thru the rad. And I have good flow thru the rad. The old water pump was not that bad but it does have a better flow with the new one. But I am not sure about the brand I got it at Autozone. The pressue in the hoses seem to be good.

I am having the engine power flushed in the next few days, again. And the head gaskets checked but I dont believe they are cracked.

If the timing is off would that cause it to overheat?
