temp gauge sender wire

So after finding out that my temp gauge should be connected to the temp sender in the drivers side head, I would like to fix that.
My engine was removed and put back in by previous owner (long story), anyway he only hooked up the bare necessities, so the temp gauge doesn't work. (isn't hooked up)

I have a temp gauge that looks like the second one from the left. (I can see it from under the car).
Now, trying to hunt down the wire that connects to it, I understand it should be green?
Can anyone point me in the right direction, there's LOTS of loose wiring on this car (ditched the computer), so there are green wires around, just none with a plug on the end that looks like it'd fit this. Where would this green wire lead to? Passenger side firewall? drivers?

Thanks -J

the wire should be coming from the driver side firewall in that main bundle. the wire from the temp sender goes to your gauge, so if it's non-existent, probably cut somewhere along the way. i think the routing for it would go along the firewall, up along the driver side valve cover, and down to the temp sender. not for sure, though. i'd start at the firewall and open the wire loom up and start looking there. if'n when you find it, ground it and check your gauge (key on) and should be pegged out. good luck. hope this helps... sorry, forgot to add, that yes, it should be a green wire. pretty small gauge, too.

if you are talking about the fan switch.:
actually the wire comes through the loom, towards the front, then it heads back toward the firewall, down to the knock sensor by the rear of the block on the passenger side, then the goes up from the knock sensor under the headers to the fan switch sensor

Thanks guys!

whoa Justin, this is stone age tech over here, none of that fancy stuff you're talking about. No fan sensor, no knock sensor (I don't think at least...)

I've ditched the computer, so the ECM doesn't need the temp, only my gauge (it's warming up for summer now...)
I know i've seen a green wire in that place, I just assumed it was for something else, because I think it had a female disconnect wire end on it...

However, that's VERY helpful info there, i'll turn the key to run, then start grounding out wires, and see what pegs it out.

Should there be a funny end to this wire? Or might it have a female disconnect?
Thanks -J

it should have had a female terminal on it... but if it's been cut... you can still "identify" it by stripping a little off the end just to ground it out.

Excellent, yes it was the green wire right where it should be, the plastic "cuff" on the female disconnect was melted, but I figured out how it'll connect to that sender (not quite rocket science), and now it's good to go.
Thanks! -J
