Fan Motor

I am in the process of replacing my 195degree thermostat with a 180degree and switching out my fan switch to a hypertech that turns on at 200 and off at 185.
My worry is that this car has 110,000 miles on it and for all i know the fan motor hasnt been replaced and id like to fix it before it brakes. Where I drive the fan is amost always on and I want to get this out of the way before the summer.

Where can I get a replacement fan motor (NEW)?
How hard is it to install?
How much does it cost?
How long do these motors usually last?

For some reason my fan goes on when the temp gauge hits the line between 100 and 220, and then it dosent go off. If you do the math that line should be 160 and since my termostat dosent even open till 195 that seems like a waste, but my point is the fan has been running ALOT.

Thanks Alot!!

I don't get it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Run the stock fan until it keels over. Save the money and hassle.

Adding the fan switch and new stat is not a bad idea to do just because.

You can test the fan motor when its off to see if its weak or dead. Spin the fan blades with your finger and if it spins freely then its getting weak. Fan motors in good condition should have slight hesitation while spinning. It is possible for the fan to get weak (but not stop working) and cause irratic cooling issues. Pretty soon I'll be replacing both fans motors in my IROC, they are both weak and allow the temp to reach 220-240 while at the track. When they were in tip top shape the car maintained 180 constant under the same conditions (180 stat and 180 fan switch). I get my fan motors new from Napa, jobber price around $30. Swapping them is easy should take about 10 minutes. Sounds like your car has a 160 fan switch if they always turn on at 160. And since its a 195 stat, your water temp probably stays around 200 (higher than 160 so fans always on). If you dont mind the constant 200 temp then putting in a 200 fan switch would probably make the fan motors last longer. Or if you want to maintain 160 temp then swap in a 160 stat and test the fan mototrs often.

I just told the guy at Napa what year/model I had and he was able to find the part number. Since I'm gonna be buying 2 more motors within the next few days here for my IROC I can probably get the part numbers for you. I dont know of a name brand fan motor, I just use what they gave me and its been working out great on my Z28.

Any NEW fan motor is going to be better than a 13 year or older fan motor...
If you haven't ordered the new hypertech fan switch yet...fan switch results
