91 RS cooling issue

This is for my buddy who is internet deficient.

... ...anyhow....

91 TBI with single fan. New water pump, new hoses, 195 stat. The gauge shows the car running at 235 "ish". First of all, what SHOULD it be running? Second, is it likely the gauge is off? I know anything is possible, but is that common to be off a little?

He said that it's been flushed twice, and it flows just fine, so I'm thinking it's either a fan switch or instrumentation problem. I told him this and he said it runs just as hot while driving, and we both agreed this would probably eliminate the fan being an issue. Is this correct?

What is the stock temp for the fan, and can the wiring be grounded to test the switch?

I'm a L98 guy so this is a little foreign to me, we BOTH appreciate any help!

Engine: what engine, LT1
Transmission: did it come with one, 4l60
Axle/Gears: They spin (most of the time)
I have the same car and i had trouble with it overheating when it had a 305 in it. We tried alot of things but the only thing that helped was to ground out the fan switch and let the fan run all the time. With a 305 the car run about 170 degrees.
