Anti-Freeze/Coolant

I have a 305 that is getting really hot all the time now, I think it was because the it was leaking alot of anti-freeze/coolant out of the thermostat housing. I fixed this problem by buying a gasket and sealent and sealing this all over again, then I added water... I know Water will rust my engine over time, but replacing water for anti-freeze/coolant could this cause the tempature to rise? or is it something else?

Fan Works and there is no leaks coming out from anywhere

Are you losing water? If so, it's probably a blown head gasket....
Antifreeze/coolant will not cause your car to run hotter-it only
prevents rust and corrosion, lubricates your water pump and will
help increase your boiling point (with the appropriate pressurized
radiator cap).
