AutoMeter water temp gauge problem..

i just installed my autometer dual gauge pillar with oil pressure and water temp gauges installed, i drove it around it the damn thing pegged on me, then jumped back to 230, then to 180 then up to 220-230, and there it stood until i turned my car off... let it sit over night and it only went down to 150??? lol wtf is going on here? i thought maybe it had to do with it being to close to the headers. its supposed to go in the side of the block not on the intake manifold correct? if not ill have to get a different gauge cause taht one wont work... maybe i have air bubbles in my coolant? i dont know, its pissing me off tho so any help is appreciated thanks

if this is a mechanical gauge the exhaust will heat the capillary tube. move it to the manifold or use an electric.i've got my electric sending unit in the manifold for 6 years no problems
