LT1 runs hot

My LT1 conversion runs hot. The radiator that's in there now is aluminum and plastic and it's 1 3/8 inch thick. I have no clue if this is the original radiator, it could be from a V6 for all I know. I checked the thermostat and everything else and it just seems like it needs more cooling capacity, it's hot down here in the summer. With the exception of forking out $$$ for a custom radiator, what's an economical replacement radiator that has more capacity? I can get my hands on a radiator from a 2002 WS6 trans am, would this work?

I ran a ZZ-4 in my 89, It got hotter faster with the stock rad but always stayed within the safe zone. Whitney sold Modine rad's that you could order special with more rows for better cooling that fit into the stock holder. A couple of cheap and fast things you can try is reducing the coolant to water ratio. Try running 30% coolant and 70% water. What stat is it? If it's a 195 you could try a 180, although I think the LT1's were 180 anyway. Red Line has a water wetting agent they sell, some of my cycle friends run it with straight water in thier high HP sportbikes. Evans has a propolyne glycol coolant that does not boil till almost 350 deg with a zero pressure cap. Don't know about the '02 rad, my '02 z-28 looks pretty much like the 89 rad. Other than that you may have to fork out the bucks for a Griffin or Be-Cool unit until you are satisfied.

I'm a dumbass. The primary fan had a loose wire. it still runs a little warmer than I would like it to but it's a hell of a lot better. I need to get that plastic air dam for underneath the front too.
