not overheating but near/engine light comes on?

Hi guys, listen i know that there might be a post out there about my questions and the answers i need. but i havent had time to look good, so if there is a post that you can just link me too that would be great and you can delete this.

well here is my problem, i have a tpi camaro, i tested the pressure first off for the cooling system and there are no leaks, water pump works fine, the dual fans kick on when they are suppose to, the hoses are in good shape. what i dont understand is what could be happing to this car just about going to overheat at some point, lucky me that the car didnt get there. 2 things that i think can be a problem, one the thermostate is not working properly or the heater core box is blocked up or bad, but it doesnt have any leaks and i just got a new heater valve. any help would be great or any good ideas to solve this matter, i noticed that you can make a wiring with a switch that runs the 2 fans constantly, but im not good with relay charts or diagrams, to bad there arent pictures . i also wanted to say that i got that hawks ram air boxes but that shouldnt effect the air flow right, the air dam has been gutted out for the installation for this ram air product. thanks for any help possible.

P.S. the thermostate that im running is hypertech 160 degrees and i have the performance chip from them called the street runner not the thermo master chip. thanks again.

Your answer is in your post. You took off the air dam. It's there to direct air in through the radiator. Without it, the only airflow you're getting to the radiator is what's coming in and NOT going down and around the bottom of the radiator. The air that's going around it, is air that's not going THROUGH it. While I'm not at all familiar with the ram air stuff, shouldn't there be a way to keep the dam and just cut holes for the ram air boxes? The time spent on that would be better than the time replacing a blown head gasket or cracked head.
