My 88 GTA takes forever to get fully warm. I can get almost all the way to work (about 7 miles) before it even gets close to 220. On a cold morning, or evening, it may never get there. Most folks complain it runs too hot, and mine is way too cool, which I know is killing my mileage (10.5 MPG last tank). I had flushed the system and installed a 180 thermo, but thats about it. Granted, I have headers (coated) and an Accel base, but otheriwse its pretty stock. Any ideas?

i had same problem last winter. see if your fan is hardwired.

Nope. Neither fan is hardwired, and both turn on when they should all by themselves. Maybe I got the cooloing system working just a bit too well, lol.

worth a try. when i got a new fan and took it off of hardwired. car heated up a LOT quicker. last winter my car didnt go above 160. it sucked.

 

i have the same problem i was overheating and running a 10 thermostat. I replaced the radiator and the thermostat with a 195 and i have to be sitting still for almost 10 minutes before the first fan will come on

 

Either a low temp thermostat or a failed open thermostat. Whatever is is, look at the thermostat first..
