I can tell if my car is pumping water or not. The fan doesn't come on either. but on a 10-15 min drive the temp is at 220. how can i tell if I am pumping water or not? the upper hose is hot when running but can't feel any water running through it. also the water is extremely mucky.

Some of these fans won't come on until 220 degrees anyway. Murky coolant is bad, drain and flush several times, new anitfreeze soon. Prices for antifreeze may be going up soon too due to the storm in N.O. where most of it is made.

well, i will have to wait awhile to flush it. I know it cant be good for the motor to have that murky water running through it.
when I unplugged the fan 2nite, water was in the plug, do you think water could be inside the inner workings of the fan, and causing it not to work?
I have a conglomoration of wires that were spliced and then put back together, that comes from the fan. I have no idea who did it or why and I can trace them far enough to see were they all lead to. A couple of them have black rubber sections in them that looks like some kind of inline fuse holder. the only thing is that they don't open up. but one has the number 16 and the other 18 i think. thats what makes me think its a fuse of somekind. I will get a picture of all this. too hard to explain. It will be 2morrow evening before i can get the pictures.

Think you're describing a fusible connector, the rubber is a connection between the power wire and a short piece of wire designed to burn out if a dead short happens. Might hook a couple wires to the fan motor direct from the battery and ground and see if the motor will even run.

Is there a lot of pressure in the rad hoses either upper or lower? Possible stuck t-stat or if murky could have plugged heater core. Also with engine cold remove rad cap and start engine, coolant should flow through from upper heater hose. Also if rad is hot, Is it hot all over or just one side or top to bottom? Just some educated guesses.
