It is 10 degrees out,

So please throw at me the most obvious cause for losing the highest heater-blower speed. It is a four-speed system.

Axle/Gears: 2.42 too high
look at the blower relay & its main power feed.
there is a good probability you will find 1 or 2 of the terminals over heated & melted.
if the terminals look good & the relay seems ok check the main power feed to the relay.

The highest setting for the fan is a direct current hookup, meaning it gets full 12 volts (a seperate wire to the fan) The 3 other speeds have resistors built in to the 12 volt connection, which control the speed of the fan. Under the hood either the 12 volt source or the ground (for the high speed) wire needs to be repaired. By the way, where in Brooklyn are you? I'm in Sheepshead Bay.

my 1989 Iroc now belongs to my son who lives in Levittown, NY, however I currently have it because I just had the rear rebuilt for him. If by next weekend (when any predicted snow has melted), you haven't resolved your problem, let me know and you can come over and look at the set-up I have on his car, I actually rewired the "high fan" connection under the hood. Hopefully it didn't change much in the 5 years from 83 to 89. You can e-mail me at FrankTA2@aol.com

Thanks for the offer. I believe that I have discovered the problem.
The relay works when the wiring underneath is disturbed. This jiggles the connecting pins protruding it.
Happened before, to the headlight motor relay. Had to solder the coil wires to the connecting pins.
I may come over, just to share some Coronas.
