LO3 Overheating Again...
Okay so now when I am driving in stop and go traffic I overheat. My fan is not working so that is the reason why, but I dont know why my fan is not working. Also my temperature gauge is broken. Im not sure, but are both of the units that control the gauge and the fan on the same wire? And I was talking to a guy at Shucks and he said that if I touch to wires together or something, the fan will stay on as long as the engine is on. I dont know what to do...Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Theres two seperate senders. The one that contorls the fan is on the passenger side fan. Make sure it is switching from an open circuit to a closed circuit when your car gets hot.

1) With key on, turn your A/C controls to Max and see if fan works. On a single fan car, the fan will come on with A/C on, on a dual fan car, one of the two fans will come on. This will let you know if the fan actually works and is getting juice from battery. If nothing, then you have a bad wire to the fan or a bad fan motor - they are like $30 for a new fan.
2) Check the relay - located on the driver side firewall, next to the brake booster - it should be in a metal enclosure - there are 2 of them, one for fuel pump, one for fan - try getting car hot, turning it off, swapping those relays quick, and turning key back on to see if fan runs. These relays are like $5.
3) Fan Switch - located on pass side has a single wire plug to it. There are 2 sensors there with single wires - one is Fan Switch, one is Knock Sensor (I don't remember which is which). Remove the connector (squeeze it), and with key on, ground this wire to the chassis. If the fan comes on, then you need a new Fan Switch. If it doesn't, try the other connector same side same looking connector to make sure you didn't ground the knock sensor instead. If you need this switch, get a good one, skip the autozone junk - go to Carquest or Napa. And wait til car is cool - there's alot of coolant coming out in your face to replace the switch.
Hope that helps.

Thank you for all of the help. I am replacing the temperature sending unit to fix my gauge and then I'll hook up my testing light and see what happens. Again, Thanks all.
