Overheat?
Overheat?
Hey, guys.
I have a 1992 V6 25th Edition Camaro.
I bought it used, and it was runnin' pretty fine, and one day it was like my car was just dying, and I looked and my temperature gauge was pinned to full.
Obviously, it broke down.
I can't figure out what the deal is. It isn't the radiator, it isn't leaking or anything. I can't figure out what it is.
Any suggestions?

I always make it a habit to regularly glance down and check both my temperature guage and oil pressure guage in my car (or any car I drive for that matter).
Anyways, have you made a visual inspection of the cooling system (rad, reservior, hoses, pump etc etc)? Do you have coolant in your system?
What do you mean the car "broke down"? If it was overheating, did you notice it steam up and leak coolant anywhere??
Can you start the car? Does it crank??

It stopped, steam was everywhere. No coolant anywhere. I waited 'till it cooled down some. Which took a long time since I live in the middle of Miami. Then cranked it back up and headed home. (So, yes, it does turn over.)
The only way I can drive it, though. Is if I turn on Panel, and let all the hot air from the engine blow into my car. Which makes it unbearable.
First check and see if you have any leaks. Make sure all the freeze plugs on the block are intack, all hoses are tight and there are no air pockets in the system (take the radiator cap off and start the car, let it run for a while and pour in fluid as needed).
Also make sure youre fan(s?) are kicking in. They might have burned out or the fan relay might have died.
Also make sure your wind deflector (the plastic panel underneith the front of your car) is not not cracked or damaged. Make sure it's routing air up into the radiator area.
If all that' checks out, it's either your water pump, or your thermostat.
The past couple weeks, my car has over heated numerous times, and lord only knows how much money I've spent on anti-freeze during this period
First time was because the fan relay stopped working which lead to the temperature rising to the point where it blew out a freeze plug.
2nd time was because there was a leak in one of my hoses and I didn't "air-out" the coolant system properly from that first over-heating incident.
Finally, 2 days ago, my car once again overheated. Turns out, the thermostat got seized and wouldn't open far enough. Installed a 160" themosstat off my LT1 and the car runs so much cooler it's not even funny. (stock is 195")
I can idle in bumper to bumper traffic all day long in the swetering heat and the temperature NEVER goes above 160-170". Best "mod" I've done so far.
Good Luck.
