AC system needs charging
i've searched a while and not really found the answer i'm looking for,i had a genesis scan tool running data stream the other day,and the tab system needs charge came up under HVAC,it is an R12 car,and not used alot for air,but is used for defrost regularly, the answer i'm trying to find is the low charge, can it be from age and not leaks?the accumulators and desiccant are only designed for 5 to 7 years of service, should i just bite the bullet and try to find some R12,or is it worth the conversion to 134,even tho that will change in a couple years?is the whole bottom line to look at low/high side pressures b4 anything else,it blows cold, just don't want to run compressor alot if low on charge, also does that mean possible low on oil?

If it blows cold I wouldn't break it apart. I would check the pressure If you find that its low I would get some Freeze 12 and top it off. I have used it to top off R12 it works great.
I really don't think the oil will be low. The R12 will seep through the lines etc over time. so it's not unlikely its a little low. 134 is really bad I hear, I have been told it will seep through some brass fittings.
BTW here is where I go for AC when I'm stumped.

OK
while searching i ran across one of your posts, with the link, and looked around over there also, that's kind of what i was thinking as far as a little low on charge,on my IROC the people i got it from did the cheap 134 conversion, but didn't change accumulator, don't event think the evac'd well, just shot the 134 in and a couple months after i got the car the compressor went to squalling, just unplugged it,knowing it's gonna take some $$ to fix, just wanting to save all the stuff on the Z
