A/C Advice

I have a 1991 T/a with the 305 tpi. I just bought it back in feb. I have had the a/c recharged and it blows out cool air. On a HOT day it won't even keep my car cool. How can i change it from being cool to ice cold? my buddy had the same t/a only a different color and his a/c will freeze you out. Any advice? I also bought a self recharge kit and have redone the a/c a couple times and tried different types of freeon. I believe it has nothing to do with that but something else. I think it could be the compressor but i donno. I have no idea how long it has went without being recharged before i got it.

Thanks Ahead of time!!!!

When you recharged did you use R12? Check if the compressor clutch is engaging by starting the car and turning on the A/C, listen for the clicking sound of clutch engagement, and with the hood up you can also see when it's working.
You many also want to make sure that the condensor fins are not jammed with dirt or leaves.

i recharged with r-134a cause r-12 u have to have a license to buy it. The clutch does kick in and i know the basics of a a/c system. it blows cool air but does not get cold and don't know why. They type of freeon i used ( donno what chevy dealer use ) is r-134a with sub zero, synthetic a/c booster. I also added oil too! My lines and big canister use to sweat when i use it and now it dont. After letting run for 3 minutes like instructed to on the bottle to check the pressure. its at 40 psi when its about 85 degress outside. I know i'm not loosing freeon cause i've been using it the last couple of days and have not dropped psi at all. plus there is blue die and i see no visible leaks. I have noticed my auto tentioner jumps around more when the a/c is on.... i don't know if that is normal or not.. I can provide more information if need be. Thank you for replying and hope you can help me solve my problem or give me a good idea!!!!!

I charged mine up to 65 pounds. With R134A. Man it blew icey air for the entire summer. By the next summer, though, it had all leaked out again. Time to throw more money at it! You are charging it with the A/C on high, right? I think it only draws off the refill container while the compresser's on (i.e. not clutching).

Just some advice guys..when you add freon wether its from can or from a 30lb bottle...make sure you get liquid out of the can or bottle. From a can its limited cause of the space ,but from a bottle sometimes you can get nothing but gas injected especially if its hooked to a machine. The liquid stays low and the gas stays high...on some bottles they have two ***** one blue, one red.The red is basically a tube that only goes into the bottle a short distance, while the blue's tube goes towards the bottom of the bottle to catch the liquid. When I do a can ,I always puncture the can and point the hole down while shaking it cause I want liquid only.
