cooling sensor plug

I have a 82 Ta 305 carbed engine.
The wire connector for the sonsor on the thermostat is cracked and broken big time, basicaly just the wires are stuck into the switch with electric tape around it .
Can i buy this new plug and splice into the wires ?

I'm not sure if i would have to buy a new sensor because i'm not sure what a good one looks like at the connection top.
This may be a common question but i searched for a hour to find my answer and couldn't.
Does anyone have a pic of what the sensor should look like on top without the wires connected?
