fans not working, need some guidance

OK, didnt get any love on the other thread, so here goes again.

Dual electric fans on an 88 iroc.

I need some clarification...

When are the fans supposed to run? In diagnostic mode and with the AC on correct?

The ECM controls the drivers side fan and the switch in the pass head controls the passenger side fan?

How exactly do the relays work to kick on the fans?

Basically I am having an issue where neither fan will kick on, I dont know if a fan relay has gone bad, or if the fusable link from the battery has blown.

Any help on this stuff would be greatly appreciated.

On my 89 the power feed for the fans came directly off the + battery cable. The wire had dryrotted and came apart, I had to splice in a 6" section of wire to get the fans working again.
If either fan will not run either in diag or w/ ac on, then you have a power feed problem.

Relays, when the fan is called for either by the ecm or the fan switch it sends ground to the coil which closes and sends power to the fan motor. Take the wire off the fan switch and ground it, with the key on you should hear the relay clicking, if no fan check the power feed by the battery.

OK, so if I ground out the plug to the pass side head switch that should turn the pass side fan on right?

Also, which thing is the power feed from the + battery cable? Is it the one with the fusable link?

Any pictures for this dummy??

Ground the wire, not the switch, just stick a screw or something metal in the connector and touch it to the body.

Sorry, no pictures, sold that car for parts last year.

The fuse link could be near the battery, or down under near the starter
