I'm in the middle of replacing a heater core and found a trick that will help as long as you don't mind drilling a hole in your dash. If you remove the map pocket and drill a 3/4" or 1" hole in the exact spot you can access the top screw of the core case. The map pocket will cover up the hole you made and you just saved alot of work removing the dash. The fun part is getting the screw back in place, which I will try tonite. I figure taping the screw to the socket should work.

Or try using a magnetic screwdriver.,,.i think when it come to alot of mechanics, the power of the magnet is over looked

anyone that removes the dash to replace a heater core needs to find another hobby. I replaced mine in less then 1 hour w/o removing the dash. I accessed everything from underneth be removing the lower panel. I few extensions and some swivals work wonders. as does magnets. The hardes part of my job was trying to persuede the rubber hoses off the tubes without ruining them.
