Help Troubleshooting Cooling Fan

I am a new member and have a question for the experts & more experienced Camaro owners out there.

My cooling fan will not cycle on for a hot engine. Fan tests fine and will run constantly when the AC is switched on, but not when the AC is off or the vent is on.

I have read all the posts about the cooling fan I could find, but none seemed to address this issue.

I recently installed a replacment AC/Heating control unit. Before that the fan cycled on and off according to engine temp. just fine.

Does anyone have an idea where I might start trouble shooting this without tearing out and replacing the thermostat or fan switch? Could I have messed something up by replacing the AC/Heater control unit?

I am just starting to get to know my 92 RS, 305 TBI any help anyone might offer would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance for any guidance.

Yours, Sean Malis

I had the same problem with my 89 Firebird and all i had to do was replace my fan switch which located between the two rear spark plugs on the passenger side. I did that today and you will have to lift the car up and i had to stick my rachet in a very tight space and pull with all my weight while you are under the car and it sucks. Before you do all of this you have to drain all of your coolant out and then you will not get splashed on by coolant and do this when the engine is cool. Plus i got my fan switch at Jegs. I dont know if this your problem but my fan wouldnt turn on but the left would when the a/c was on. Check to see if the outside of the switch is burnt or corroded that was my problem

replace the relay or the fan switch, the relay is located by the battery, if you follow your fan motor wires backwards youll find the location of the relay in about 10 seconds. if that doesnt work then bypass the relay which will cause the fan to come on only when the ignition is ON. the fan turns off when you take the key out of the ignition.

i dont know much about AC units though so thats all i can suggest.
