Removing the sqaure vacumn device

Ok guys, I would do a search, if I knew what I want to search for..Help...On my 89 305 TBI, there is a square box on the passenger side, that has heater hoses hooked up to it...I want to get it out of the way...I read a post awhile back ago on how to remove this so the heater still works...Can someone please explain to me what this unit is for...Thank you, Tom

The square box is the cover for your AIR management valve. The heater valve looks like this.

Jade Grey, Thanks, Ok, I guess, I was confused on the two, the heater valve is what I would like to get out of the way...Is there a way to just have the heater hooked up, as 2 lines...I notice one of the lines on the heater valve run to a point other than the heater core...Anyone got a pic of the hose routing with out this valve...Thanks...
