Sounds like somehow between conversions the fan is shorted to a hot wire so it stays once you turn the ignition. I have that problem but mine was caused by the previous owner. The fan is controlled by the ECM(car computer). And part of the circuit is the fan the fan relay and the coolent sensor. The coolent sensor tell the computer the coolent temperature and then once it gets hot enough teh computer knows when to turn on the fan. It sends a signal to the fan relay and the fan goes on. If you short out or bypass the fan relay you will get what we have now. A constant fan that is always on. I have yet been able to track down where my fan is bypassing the relay but double check your wiring. The dealership can give you the number code that is printed on the relay so you know which relay to check.

Let me know if this has helped.

Goodluck!

And sounds awesome what your doing. I did the opposite. I have a 1986 TA. I am removing the bumpers and ground effects and replacing with 82-84 parts to look like a 82-84 TA on the outside but will have the TPI engine under the hood.
