Can I run heater hoses differnet than stock
I was wondering can I run my heater hoses different than they are stock? I have an 89 GTA 5.7 which is currently out of the car. Can I make things simple. Can I take the bypass value off? Any body made this like an old car? Just 2 hoses in and out? Thanks

Is there a "heat blend door" inside the dash that lets you do this and still retain temperature control for the HVAC system? I thought the heater control valve was what changed it from cold to hot when you move the slider.

I removed that ugly as s diverter valve and threw it up in the air 3 times before I could kill it with a 12 guage remington. And since I deleted my A/C and still wanted heat I just ran a heater hose from my water pump (or front of intake in stock form) into the heater core and a different hose out the heater to the radiator.
I also installed a little manual cut-off valve in the hose from pump to heater core that I turn off during the summer to keep hot water out of the passenger compartment. Most people recomend you drill a couple 1/8" holes in the thermostat to keep coolant flowing when you close this valve. I don't think it would really make a difference for this but it is a good idea for other reasons.

I wouldn't think it would shorten it, maybe extend the life. If not circulating there is still coolant in there that might get stagnant and have sediment that might settle. Just my opinion.

you dont need the valve,
removing it from my vehicles is one of the first things i do to them when i first get them
