Fans on too soon?

Hi, I don't think I've seen this in any stickys. My fans are coming on too early. I've got an '88Iroc w/ the 2 fans. I start the mtr and after just a couple minutes warming up I've got at least one fan on. The gauge hasn't even moved yet! It doesn't overheat, runs right between 190-220. I can even watch the gauge and see when the tt opens up. Is this maybe the sensor in the block going bad? I don't think it's bothering anything but why run the fans when it's 15 degrees outside and the thing ain't even warmed up? Appreciate any thoughts, Joe

Which fan is coming on? Any chance it's the fan activated by the A/C control?

I guess I'll have to look more closely tomorrow. I was under the impression that the a/c would only turn the fan on when the compressor head pressure hit a preset # and also when the defrost is on. and then other non A/C fan functions we're controlled by the engine block temp sensor?....I guess either one could be closing too soon and turning the fans on whether the compressor is making pressure or not. It's supposed to warm a bit tomorrow and I'll give it a better look, Thx! Joe
