1992 Z28 Heater Core
Hope I can get some info here.. The subject is obviously replacing my heater core in a 92 Z.. Looked into older info here and got the some of the picture.. Had my 87 IROC done a few years ago and is wasn't fun but.. people in the shops around here telling me the 91, 92 are 6-8 hours ??? Have to empty and recharge the A/C possibly ??? Any input would be very appreciated..

Did my 88 last fall, pretty straightforward job. Remove dash cover and computer helps a lot. Did you try a search on here? Seems like I found a really good write up on the procedure. Hard part is getting the new core in without bending the tubes all to heck. Read several recommendations about buying a Delco core, so I did, but it didn't look or fit any better than the aftermarket cores I've put in other cars/trucks. Cost more though. AC should not be affected by this.

Yes i have replaced mine its a 92 z-28....i believe all the bolts were accessible if you lay down on the passenger floor, except one. Mine was missing that top screw so i just didnt put it back, nothin a lil glue wouldnt fix on the top corner. I had trouble finding the hosing b/c i had to cut it but i made something work, but it wasnt easy. Prob took me about 1.5hrs and 2 to make a new hose work. When your staring at the firewall its the one with the huge curve straight down....but i know where to order it now.

All the 82-92 heater cores are the same. Just did my 878 GTA, and heater was wqaws no different than the 92 RS one I did.
I've done my 92 RS, my wife's 90 RS, and the 87 GTA. No need to pull the dash, or all the crap the book calls for. Just lay under the dash, pull the cover pieces until you get to the heater core. It's a bit tricky to twist and turn to get out, but it's still easier than pulling half the dash, like the book outlines.
