Transmission cooling line suggestion

Hi everyone! I was working on my cooling system today and when i unscrewed the lower tranny cooling line, the pipe kinked. It was pretty much rusted. So i decided to cut off the bad part and try to use compression fittings and a small tube to replace the bad part. Unfortunately, after 3 hrs trying to do this, I failed. The line has a curve so when i put on the fitting, it would be angled and not allign to the hole on the radiator. So I was wondering, should i cut off another 3 inches on the line and replace it with aluminum tubing, since i hear they are easier to bend? Or should I cut off the curve and use a elbow compression fitting to continue the line to the radiator? Thanks in advance. oh and btw, wat flows thru these lines anyway, tranny fluid or coolant?
