wierd problem thats driving me nuts

I have a wierd problem my 91 z was running hot on the highway and cool in town so I got a new thermostat the old one was stuck open so new therm. in and now it runs 220-240 all the time...so I get new water pump..still runs 220-240..next the temp sensor for the gauges still runs 220..so I talk to a guy and he says stick a meat thermometer in the radiator and run the car untill it gets hot the themometer says 195 but the gauges say 220 any thoughts??

thanks
steve

is the air dam even on the car? It should be under the car in front to direct air to the radiator. Get an aftermarket temp gauge and install it. stop guessing.

definately believe the thermometer before the guage.

Do what rjt76 suggested and buy a quality temp guage

theres no wiring. find a spot to screw in the sensor(Cylinder head) and put it through the fire wall and hook it up.
