new rad fan combo overheateng...wtf help
yeah so i did a new motor, forged 355 small block...lot more heat then the original 350 so i got a griffin 31 x 19 universal 2 core aluminum rad and a 2900 cfm perma cool fan...the fan has no shroud on it...and once i stop moving...in traffic the motor hits 230 or so...stock water pump...i got this stuff 40 bellow some kind of addtiive...i was wondering if this will help it stay cooler and should i build a shroud for the fan....or a performance water pump...what do you cooling experts think....

about the same setup as yours, same problem. I have stock 3 core radiator in mine. about 90 degrees today and is at 190 on interstate, but with fan on and in town got to 240! still have the stock water pump. must not be the radiator since are cars are doing the same thing. I thought maybe a stewart stage 2 water pump might be a good try? I don't know? maybe someone else has had this problem too? Whats strange is that there are quite a few people on here that have really built up engines and temps are ok. What are you guys running for setup? Only thing I haven't tried yet is upgrading the water pump. If that don't work, might just put a flexlite manual fan on it.

I just bought an `88 Iroc with a history of running too hot. These are the changes I made and so far so good. I replaced the stock 195 thermostat with a "drilled" 180 and replaced the 230-240 degree fan switch with one that turns the primary fan on at 200 and off at 185. GM engineered these cars to run too hot for smog reasons. There is a lot of good information on this site about cooling issues.

Fan setups need a shroud, without it, the air spills slowly to the sides. Cooling is all about air velocity through the radiator...
