Help with heater core!
Help with heater core!
I read the article about replacing the heater core and it seems straight forward. However upon speaking to the local GM certified mechanic, he states that in the 89 and up IROC, you will need to completely remove all the dash and center console in order to get access to the heater core. Please someone that has experience only with 89 and older IROC, let me know what the real story is and what you had to do in order to change this thing out. Because in the tech article, it did not list years in which the directions are for.

Re: Help with heater core!
I don't own an IROC but I've changed the heater core on 86 Z28, 2 89 RS, and a 90 RS.
Will warn you now, I suck at giving instructions since I don't know the name of every part.
It's located on the passenger side. All you have to do is basically take off the bottom panel on the passenger side. Couple other screws and its sitting right there.
Yea like I said, my instructions suck.

Re: Help with heater core!
there's no reason you should need to remove the center console, it's in no way related, and I'm pretty sure all the thirdgens would have the same procedure for the heater core.
Re: Help with heater core!
Thanks rsrsrs, i took your advise and did it myself. No removal of dash or anything, was right there once i removed the lower panel and some cover. It did take a few hours but would be way less time than disassembling the whole dash! This forum is great, experience is everything, not just book knowledge. Feels so good to know I accomplished something myself.
