Sizzlin' Temperature

I have a 91 Formula and have recently moved to Phoenix, AZ. I having cooling problems when stopped in traffic. It has a new radiator, water pump, and thermostat. It's as if the dual fans don't pull enough air when sitting still. Now realize our temps have been in the 100's, some days almost 120 during July. Does anyone have a suggestion? I was going to get fans with a higher cfm but cannot find the cfm for the originals.

Re: Sizzlin' Temperature

Do a search in the tech archives under "cooling, runs hot" and you will get all the info you can use. If your fan switch and thermostat are the factory type you can get a 180 thermostat or lower instead of the factory 195 and a 200 on 185 off fan switch or lower. Make sure your cap is in good shape and correct, a bottle of water wetter helps and use about 30% anti-freeze to 70% water. I have never found the cfm ratings of the factory fans on this site or any where else. Do a search and make the few changes mentioned above and you should be running cooler. Summit, Jegs and most auto parts stores carry the parts you need. Don`t let anyone talk you into using the stock factory parts, they are made to run too hot!!, especially where you live now. There are some members that know what they are talking about in your area, hopefully you will get a reply from them.

Re: Sizzlin' Temperature

It`s all the way up to 75 here today! Sorry. Also, check the area between your radiator and condenser for any blockages like leaves etc.As I said earlier, GM made these cars to run hot but we can get the temps down without spending a lot of money. What temps are you running? 220-240 is normal but too high for me.
