Heater Control Valve Problem...

Heater Control Valve Problem...
Looking for some advice for my '92 RS. I was down at Atco Raceway making a few passes with my car, and on the 3rd run about halfway down the track, my heater control valve cracked big time, sending antifreeze all over my motor and the track. Just wondering what could cause this? Seems like a fluke occourence to me....

I can't tell you what caused it, but I had (and I think I still have, but I'll have to check) a heater control valve from my 1992 TPI 350 car laying in my garage (if it's still there). If I still have it and you need it, it's yours for the cost of shipping, just send me a PM and I'll go look for it in the pile of stuff I've removed from the car.

that did that to me once...i could smell anti freeze under the car when i came home... motor was running near 220 degrees. i opened the hood and saw alittle leak from that valve....so i started to tighten the hose clamp....
thing blew open sending 200+ degree coolant all over my arm and hand. that hurt abit the plastic hose barb on the valve was just old and cracked from years of hot/cold expansion/contraction i believe.

Re: Heater Control Valve Problem...
Seen that happen a few times on thirdgens at the track. They are prone to breaking, junk plastic. It's probably due to how it's mounted and the engine torque pulling on it slowly cracking it over time. I'd guess it happens at the track since the car is getting run harder than in everyday driving.
I got rid of mine, the slight difference it makes for in cabin temps vs not having extra hoses and plastic and no worry of failure was worth it for me
