91 RS Cooling fan issues...
Hey everyone,
My 91 RS is haveing sooling issues. The fan doesnt turn on when the motor gets hot, but it does turn on with the A/C on. I have replaced the relay (3 times), the first 2 looked burned and the third one was melted to the connector. After the melted one, I got a new connector and relay and now it doesn't turn on anymore. Any thoughts?
Oh, and I dont have a volt meter to check things, and even if I did I wouldn't know how, and I am not good (at all) with electrical stuff... so please keep that in mind when answering (I'm not to bright
)
Thanks in advance,
-Tim-

If the fan turned on with the A/C the relay should be fine. Both the A/C switch and the temp sensor run through the same terminal on the relay. If the relay melted/burned the fan motor could be on the way south.
Check your fan switch on the passenger side cylinder head. There's a single wire connector below and between the #5 and #7 spark plugs. Ensure it's connected to the temp switch in the head. Test its continuity to the relay by pulling the wire off the connector and touching it to a ground (engine/head is fine) with the ignition in run. This should ground the relay terminal and turn on the fan. Don't worry it's a low current circuit. You may need a short piece of jumper wire to contact the terminal inside the pigtail to a ground.
Chances are this wire is disconnected/melted through or otherwise not engaged to the switch terminal.
