A/C blockage?????

I need help, I am so confused. I first was told that I have a blockage I my a/c system. $180 to just flush the system, and extra for fixing what is causing the blockage. I called around to find something possibly lower, they said that I just low in freon, and that the gauges just tells pressure on the heads. URG....I look into buying the recharge can at NAPA. They tell me that I probably do have a block, and so I try calling around today and found out that I now have to convert my system from R-12 to R-134a, and then flush system for blockage. I am aggrivated and confussed. What do I do. Granted I have until March or April now to fix it, but where do I turn now?

Krista,

I live in King NC, just 5 mins outside Winston Salem. If you're not too far I would be happy to check the A/C. I have been a A/C tech for a few years (28 years) Just let me know.

There can be a block in the lines. If there is a block in the lines then you've got bigger problems. The block will most likely be in the orifice tube which is nothing but a $3 little screen that is in your liquid line. It usually gets blocked by shavings from the internals of a compresser thats going out.

What is the system doing? Is it not working at all? working but not cold enough, or only for the first few minutes and then no cold air? Its not hard to diagnose an a/c system, just gotta know how it works. Tell us what problem your having and I'm sure we can help you save some money. Or if close enough take up that offer above and have it checked.

Re: A/C blockage?????

Usually it just barely gets cold then turns hot and stays. At the beginning of the summer it would freeze ya. The other day Mom and I was coming home it started to rain, ok I thought just try it and see what's it going to hurt? NOTHING was wrong with it, was so cold, colder than beginning of the summer? I don't know, maybe it is blocked, now do I switch it to R-134a and get the system flush?

Let me know where your shop is and a phone number I will try and call ya when I get some time to!!!
