dual fan troubleshooting

dual fan troubleshooting

Greetings,

I had a new air condition compressor installed in my 1989 iroc 350tpi at a local shop. My problem is that both fans come on too soon. The fans come on when the gauge hits past the 100 degree mark. I do have a jet fan switch (60600) and jet low temp stat (10170) installed, which haven't given me any problems until recently. Can somebody help me?

Sorry for not responding back in time . I've been out town, anyway It's actually 160 degrees F (mark between 100 and 220?) Before the air condition compressor install the driver's side fan would turn on at 180 degrees (between 160 and 220 mark) and the passenger side wouldn't. But, since the installation both fan's turn near 160 degrees. I know cooler is beter, but I think this to soon for both fans to kick in.

P.S. i've noticied that the water level in reservoir doesn't change, even after hour's of riding around.

I don't see how a new AC comp. could effect your electrical fans. Sounds like you got a low temp sensor for the fans installed on the block. My 88, neither fan comes on till 220-240 thats with the stock temp sensor. I actually have a toggle switch for them so I can flip them on whenever I want before 240. Hmmm... I can see it being annoying, no reason to have your fans going at 160 F while going down the highway.

Blue Iroc, sounds like you are having the same issue I am. I replaced my fan switch with the same one you have from Jet which is 195-200 on and 180-185 off for the #60600 if memory serves me right. From what I can find, the secondary fan is controlled by the fan switch and/or the AC being on. When the secondary fan turns on the primary fan automatically turns on also. I was not aware of this until I connected an LED to each fan relay so I know when my fans are on. My `88 Iroc 383 TPI never gets over 200 even in traffic so I have no complaints. I also connected a manual fan switch to each relay and if I turn the primary on it cools well. If I turn on the secondaryfan with the manual fan switch both fans come on and stay on until the temp is down to 180 or so. So far everything is working ok, no complaints. It was 90 here yesterday and I spent a lot of time in traffic and still not over 200.

Checked the IROC over the weekend, The fans are now turning on when they're suppose to but they don't turn off keeps the temp below 160 degrees. WTH? Anyway, the radiator started to leak from one of the plastic tanks. One too many times, sick of that happening. I'm just just going to buy a new one and hoping that everything comes out right.

Blue Iroc, it still sounds to me like your fans are working similar to mine so you should be ok. Keep in mind that the stock gauges in our cars are known for being inaccurate. If you hav`nt done so yet, you may want to check your factory gauge to see how far off it is, there are several different ways to do it. I use my old trusty pocket thermometer from my days as a Chef. You can hook up another gauge or use an infrared thermometer to check your gauges accuracy.
