Bad temp sending unit?
Hey guys, I've got this problem, I was heading to work this morning, about 12:30 AM, it was about 55* F outside and I was cruising at 60 Km/h in 5th gear, about 1300 RPM. My temp gauge (In Celcius) read 130*. Because this has been happening for the past few days I decided to bring a temp gun. I shot random spots of the engine, I got 475*F for the exhaust manifolds, and about 177*F for the block, and 105* F for the intake. Is my temp sending unit pooched, or is it the thermostat?

Howdy from freezing Texas to Ontario! (yeah, your "cold" north is now warmer than our "hot" Texas
- we're freezing our asses off in 15-degree weather!)
You can check your temp gauge sender. Frankly, I have no idea where it is on the V6 block but I'm hoping somebody will chime in with the location.
Pull the connector off the sender and measure the resistance (red lead on the sender, black lead on the block). When your gauge shows 130*C, you should see 55 ohms on the meter. If you do, that means that the gauge is not lying to you. But the sender might.
The best place to measure the coolant temperature is at the thermostat housing. Point the IR gun at it and you should get the most accurate reading that way. 130*C is about 266*F, that's practically red-line on the gauge.
I bet it's just your coolant gauge sensor that's messing with ya. Been there.
