underdrive pulley

In about a week I will be installing a BBK underdrive pulley kit in my '92 camaro. The pulley will swap out the crank, water pump, and Alternator. With the decreased effort used to pull the pulleys will it affect the cooling of my car?

Re: underdrive pulley

? Underdrive pulleys were "invented" for high rev'ing engines where you might want to recover a few of the horses spent on the water pump at those high rpm's. At idle you gain no power, and your cooling and charging may suffer there. The decreased effort will not lead to the engine running cooler.

Re: underdrive pulley

i run underdrive pulleys on my car, at idle the pump is running like it is at 650rpm when its actually at 800 rpm. i have no cooling issues, but i am running a stewart stage 2 aluminum pump. if you do decide to get the pulleys get the one where the alternator pulley is SMALLER. if it is larger, it will turn the alternator even slower and for a daily driver thats not good. even the stock pulley on the alternator isn't good enough, even though some people still use it and say its fine. but i run the smaller alternator pulley and i have no issues on that either.

Re: underdrive pulley

didnt run a waterpump pulley but since i have a smaller crank pulley, the waterpump is not spinning as fast at idle.... i havent really noticed any differences in cooling effects.

if your waterpump pulley kit has a smaller pulley than stock it will be rotating as fast as stock or faster.

my power and amp kit for the alternator features a smaller pulley to go along with the crank pulley to keep the alternator spinning fast as stock to keep charging
