Heat Problem.

88 camaro 5.7L

I turn the heat on and it blows out pretty warm at first then drifts into a +~5* ambient temperature. I can't figure out the problem Suggestions?

Re: Heat Problem.

Assuming that the temperature contols inside the cabin all work as they should-

Possible problems; restricted heater core, failing heater control valve, loss of vacuum to heater control valve, weak or collapsed heater hose, loss of circulating system pressure... Coolant has to flow in and out of the heater core. If the system is weak or plugged, you'll need to find out where. Or it could be as simple as replacing the heater control valve found under the hood.

How long has it been since the cooling system has been serviced? Do you need to frequently add coolant?

Re: Heat Problem.

Well I have only had the car about a month. I'm not sure how long it's been since the cooling system was serviced. If the heater core was clogged it wouldn't blow hot air for even a second would it?

Re: Heat Problem.

if the area where the heater core was blocked it would not blow hot air if the heater core was plugged it would not blow hot air or circulate coolant if your heater valve didnt work you could by pass it to run constant coolant through your lines, unlikely your vacuum lines are colapsed, pull of the kick panel under the pass. side and see if the "door" opens and closes as the vacuum is pressurized in the canister if yes then you dont have a vacuum problem. let the car idle for a while or take it for a ride and feel the heater hoses that run from your intake to your heater core, if the outlet line is hot then your core isnt plugged. just keep looking.

Ok well I looked under the dash and the door opens / closed on max. The linkage from the hot and cold on the controls turn something and all the lines comming out and in on the heater control valve are hot as hell. Next idea?

Re: Heat Problem.

I GOT IT TO WORK!!!! the Vacuum line that goes on the top of the heater control valve wasn't sucking very hard to I used a Vacuum line off the back of the intake and it works perfectly. Is there anything that I should worry about by doing this?

Re: Heat Problem.

not sure, but there's a thread showing how vacuum lines are run for most of the 3rd gen engines. The thread is in the sticky section & should show you what that line was originally made for

Thank you sir.
Class, please Refer to the first link in the post quoted, and the second to last link on the page retrieved. I connected the hose that is labled ,"to hvac" to the top of the heater control valve. Am I doing damage?

- Thanks
