gauge not working

gauge not working

89 tpi 350- water temp gague doesnt work, (there is an aftermarket one in this car that works tho) and my car runs super rich (maybe for the same reason??) I replaced the sending unit in the front of the manifold but nothing changed. any advice/ideas? thanks

The sending unit in the thermostat housing sends signals to the ECM. the sending unit for the gauge is in the drivers side cylinder head, between cylinders 1 and 3.
